ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Fazil Mirani, head of the executive committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) Political Bureau, said on Wednesday that Kurds must be part of regional solutions rather than victims of political and geopolitical changes, stressing the importance of peace, Kurdish unity, and respect for Iraq’s constitution.

“One day of peace is better and more pleasant than 100 days of war,” Mirani said during an interview with Kurdistan24.

Mirani expressed hope that Iraq and the Kurdistan Region would remain secure amid regional developments, urging Kurds to understand their role in shaping the changes taking place across the Middle East.

He emphasized that Kurdish political parties must work collectively to protect the achievements and legitimate rights of the Kurdish people.

Commenting on political developments in Pirde and Sihela, Mirani described them as a source of Kurdish pride. However, he expressed disappointment over the failure to form a new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet, while noting progress in relations between the KDP and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

Regarding relations with Baghdad, Mirani reiterated the KDP’s opposition to imposing majority decisions that violate Iraq’s constitution. He called on all Kurdish political parties to adopt a unified position in defending Kurdish rights.

Mirani also praised the 18th Erbil International Book Fair, describing it as more than a gathering of writers and readers, but an important cultural and social event that reflects public interest in Kurdish literature and the Kurdistan Region.

He said the participation of writers and readers highlighted the region’s cultural vitality, adding that security and stability were essential for hosting such events.

Mirani described President Masoud Barzani’s annual attendance at the fair’s opening as an honor and emphasized the importance of reading in broadening people’s understanding.

“A book is the key to opening the mind,” he said, encouraging readers to revisit books they had not fully understood rather than keeping them merely as decorations.

The 18th Erbil International Book Fair opened on Wednesday in the presence of President Masoud Barzani, featuring more than 400 publishing houses from 18 countries. The event runs for 10 days and brings together publishers, writers, intellectuals, and readers.
