ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Mir Hazim Tahsin Beg, Prince of the Ezidis in Iraq and worldwide, congratulated Kurdistan24 on its 11th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 31, praising its reporting on the Ezidi community and its efforts to bring the experiences of survivors and displaced people to international attention.

In a message marking the broadcaster's anniversary, Mir Hazim said Kurdistan24 had consistently given attention to Ezidi concerns, particularly during periods of severe hardship. He thanked the organization for what he described as its professional and humanitarian contributions and expressed hope that its coverage would continue to reflect the community's rights and aspirations.

The prince singled out the organization's reporting on the genocidal violence inflicted on Ezidis. He said Kurdistan24 had helped communicate the suffering of the community, give survivors and displaced people a platform and make their circumstances known to audiences outside the Kurdistan Region.

His message placed the role of journalism in documenting human suffering alongside the responsibility to keep affected communities visible after the events that brought them international attention. He praised the broadcaster not merely for carrying news about the Ezidis, but for maintaining attention to the issues they face.

"We highly value this media and humanitarian role and take pride in every effort that has contributed to conveying the truth and advocating for humanitarian causes," Mir Hazim said.

He described the broadcaster's work as especially meaningful during difficult stages in the community's recent experience. In his assessment, sustained reporting had contributed to ensuring that accounts from people affected by violence and displacement reached a wider public, rather than remaining confined to those directly experiencing the events.

Mir Hazim concluded by wishing the management and staff continued success. He said he hoped Kurdistan24 would maintain its professional course and remain a place where the concerns of different communities could be heard, with particular attention to Ezidi issues, rights and expectations.

He also encouraged the broadcaster to maintain that attention beyond the anniversary, continuing to cover the community's concerns and aspirations as part of its regular journalistic and humanitarian responsibilities.

The anniversary also prompted a separate message from Baba Sheikh Ali Ilyas, the spiritual leader of the Ezidi faith, who offered congratulations to the broadcaster's leadership and employees. His remarks expanded the focus beyond coverage of humanitarian hardship to include religious observance, cultural heritage and relations among the Kurdistan Region's communities.

Baba Sheikh praised the channel's reporting on Ezidi religious ceremonies and occasions, as well as its attention to the community's customs, traditions and heritage. He said such coverage had helped introduce the faith and its cultural practices to viewers around the world.

For the spiritual leader, the importance of this work was not limited to presenting a community's history or traditions. His message also emphasized the value of covering the everyday religious and cultural life of Ezidis, ensuring that the public could encounter the community through its practices and heritage as well as through its challenges.

He commended Kurdistan24's coverage of other communities, saying its programming reflected the religious, ethnic and cultural diversity of the Kurdistan Region. Baba Sheikh associated that breadth of coverage with the promotion of coexistence, tolerance and fraternity among people of different backgrounds.

The two anniversary messages therefore highlighted related but distinct aspects of the broadcaster's work. Mir Hazim concentrated on reporting about the community's suffering, the voices of survivors and the concerns of displaced people. Baba Sheikh gave particular attention to religious ceremonies, cultural identity and the importance of representing the Region's wider diversity.

Both leaders connected those priorities to what they viewed as a continuing responsibility for the media. Mir Hazim called for coverage that would keep the rights and aspirations of Ezidis in public view, while Baba Sheikh encouraged the channel to continue serving society through its reporting and humanitarian mission.

Their remarks also reflected the different positions from which the two leaders spoke. The prince emphasized the public visibility of Ezidi experiences and demands, particularly in times of difficulty. The spiritual leader focused on religious and cultural representation, while linking it to understanding among the Kurdistan Region's communities.

Neither message announced a new initiative or policy. Both were expressions of appreciation and expectations addressed to Kurdistan24 on the anniversary of its establishment. Their assessment of the broadcaster's contribution was presented as the leaders' own view.

At the close of his message, Baba Sheikh wished the organization further achievements and success in its work of serving society and conveying information. Mir Hazim likewise expressed hope that Kurdistan24 would continue as a professional media platform attentive to Ezidi concerns and to the voices of communities across the Kurdistan Region.
