ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, on Wednesday, received Falih Al-Fayyad, Chairman of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), to discuss the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on recent developments and changes in the overall situation in Iraq and the region.

They also emphasized the importance of resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in Baghdad, stressing that the Region should receive its financial rights and entitlements fairly and on an equal footing with other parts of Iraq.

The statement said this should be ensured in accordance with the principles of Iraq’s federal system and in a manner that respects the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional status.

The long-standing disputes between the federal government and the KRG remain centered on structural and financial issues. While both sides engage in periodic, high-level negotiations, several core issues continue to paralyze deep economic reform and strain relations.
