ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraq's Integrity Commission announced on Thursday, the arrest of a police station chief in Baghdad's Rusafa district after he was caught red-handed allegedly receiving a bribe.

In a statement, the commission said an investigative and follow-up team from the Baghdad Investigation Directorate had monitored the officer for a period before setting a trap to apprehend him. The suspect holds the rank of colonel.

The team raided the police station and found the officer in his office allegedly receiving money in exchange for issuing search, inspection, and arrest warrants against a suspect.

The commission said the police station chief was arrested on bribery charges and referred to the judiciary under Article 160 of Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969 to face legal proceedings.

The arrest comes amid Iraq's broader anti-graft campaign, which began on June 28, with an operation known as the "Dawn Offensive."

During the operation, Iraqi security forces sealed off Baghdad's high-security Green Zone to execute a series of judicial arrest warrants. The campaign resulted in the arrest of 47 high-profile individuals, including 13 members of parliament whose parliamentary immunity was lifted, a deputy minister, and several senior government directors.
